Odessa Madre was Washington, DC’s own ‘Al Capone’. She was also known as the ‘Queen of the Underworld’. Madre ran an illegal ‘jill joint’ selling bootleg liquor, ran a bookmaking operation, was madam of multiple brothels and trafficked narcotics. She also ran her own nightclub, Club Madre, which she would often attended flanked by beautiful girls called “yella gals” (prostitutes). A table was reserved for her at Club Madre always set with a dozen roses.
