July 12, 2010:

Three Ring (Media) Circus

This painting is a commentary on the newspaper's choice of what stories to put on the cover each day. Too often, a sports or human interest story dominates the front page and little or no coverage is given to many more pressing issues.

In the left ring, a clown poses holding the iconic "Hands of Victory" swords from Baghdad.
In the center ring, the bull represents Spain winning the World Cup and/or a reference to the economy (bull / bear market). A Hollywood starlet stands atop the bull to represent the fascination with movie stars and pop culture news.
In the right ring, a human cannonball is shot from a cannon decorated with the Israeli flag - a reference to Israeli's recent attack on the Turkish aid ships headed to Gaza (and the diverting of the Libyan aid ship that was headed to Gaza).
Flying through the air is an acrobat with an Uncle Sam hat pulled over his eyes to represent the unmanned predator drones being used by the US against the Taliban in Pakistan.
